Well it is very simple if you know the difference between a Doctor in MBBS and a PhD Doctor in Economics you have figured out most of this article. With the increased awareness of food and its relation in the development of the most scary and dreadful non-communicable diseases, like Diabetes, Hypertension, heart diseases, PCOD, infertility, arthritis problems, hair fall, vitamin deficiencies, intestinal disorders, lung problems, inadequate nutrient absorption, dyslipidemias and also few cancers, the Nutritionists and Dieticians are in demand these days.

Before going into the details of the role and responsibilities of Nutritionist or Dietician’s, is to check who actually is the culprit or the crude villain behind all these most common disorders in the modern world. It is the extra fat deposits piled up in your body (OBESITY), due to your unhealthy and unrestrictive eating habits as well as your sedentary lifestyle.

I would not only blame you all for this, but the blame should also go to the modernization, which along with the extra comfort and fast pacing in all the things we do, even the food habits and lifestyle have become neglected as we are quite busy in fast forwarding our lifestyle, without noticing a simple fact that our lives are being fast forwarded and the average lifespan has come down due to the extra pressure given to our bodies either in the form of unhealthy food, pollution, stress, hectic lifestyles, no trees around us, over addicted to gadgets etc..

Though few of the reasons mentioned above, may not be controlled by us, let’s start taking care of what can be controlled by us so that we can lead a healthier life. And let me point out that as the communicable diseases were eradicated by the help of our great scientists like Madam cuire (rabies vaccine), Dr.Jonas salk (polio vaccine) etc, the non-communicable diseases like Diabetes, hypertension etc.. does not require any specific Vaccines, instead can be easily prevented by just adjusting few dietary and lifestyle habits.

But are you guys struck somewhere, whether to visit a Nutritionist or a Dietician, the answer quite simple that both works under the same concept, and just that the dieticians are more concentrated on the quantity of the food you should eat, whereas the Nutritionists are focused on the quality of the food you eat. (Here’s a bonus to you guys, that you need not reduce the quantity to extremes but just keep a check on the quality of the food, so that you are not starved ?) Sounds too simple, Right!!

Actually Nutrition is not a new rocket science, which seems to have emerged recently. Hippocrates has already mentioned the importance of Food and Nutrition in relation to Human health and well-being. But it is our negligence or the side effects of modernization ;-), or lack of sufficient time to eat healthy, or the availability of more colourful and attractive, extra sweet and extra flavourful food that is present all around us, which is tempting us to overlook the importance of good, fresh and natural food and its impact on health.

Sadly people have realized the importance of food, (to be more clear I can say GOOD FOOD ? ) only when the metabolic diseases have started attacking them and slowly conquering their bodies ?

But that’s ok too, as nothing ever is late, before the dreadful chronic diseases attack each and every cell in your body, lets introduce the natural fighters to our body, which are nothing but the antioxidants, and normal nutrients found in natural food available easily and economically. Here comes the role of Nutritionists, who helps you to select your food wisely in terms of both quantity as well as quality.

Where most of the dieticians concentrate on the numbers or quantity of food, Nutritionists concentrate on the quality of the food, depending on your health status, family history of any chronic diseases, lifestyle, dietary habits and they take into account your present health status by looking into your laboratory reports, physical and medical examination, and obviously your anthropometric measurements.

Clinical Nutrition also takes care of the nutrition of in-patients (hospitalized patients), in co-ordination with their regular medical and surgical treatments. It helps the patients deal with their illness in a better way, as the clinical nutritionist will ensure that the patient gets the specified nutrients according to their deficiencies.

Clinical Nutritionist concentrates more on looking into the energy levels, helps to maintain a perfect balance by advising the patients to have food in such a way that their each meal is inclusive of all the 3 major nutrients like Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fats, and also the micronutrients like Vitamins and Minerals.

To be more clear, Nutritionists work in a preventive modality towards diseases, assisting people to identify and change their dietary habits as well as their lifestyle habits. Clinical Nutritionist, in general analyzes whether a person is consuming adequate amount of nutrients required for a healthy and a fit body, which reflects in a beautiful and a happy YOU ?
